The new state of the art, 21st century building opened for business
in April 2004. The mission of the Centre is to promote and support
growing enterprise in the Lee Valley region and to promote
the benefits of environmental best practice. Located on Bowl Road,
overlooking the Sullane River, (and within walking distance of the
thriving town of Macroom) the Macroom E Business Centre houses a number
of office and industrial units aimed at new or expanding companies
who have requirements for industrial or commercial office rental space. With short term leases and shared facilities (including broadband,
front reception, canteen, three phase power), this is attractive
to small and growing companies.
The Centre now houses a number of companies including Radon Ireland, Eco Construction, The Dental Equipment Centre, Somex
Ltd. A Hot Desk room is available for
'one person' operations (desks available on a month to month basis)
and an impressive meeting room for tenants
to host meetings and which is available for booking to any other group
outside the Centre.
- Solar heating system to heat the water
- Mobility sensors and energy saving light bulbs installed
- Rain water is collected from the roof and used as grey water
for toilets. All toilet cisterns of low water type
- Electrical equipment is of high efficiency
- Geo-thermal heating system in place
- The building incorporates a number of south facing windows to
allow for passive solar heating
- Timber used in the construction of the building is from environmentally
sustainable sources
- Roof lights with northern aspects have been installed to increase
natural daylight and decrease the dependence of artificial lighting,
particularly with use of mirrored light tubes
- The building has been sufficiently insulated to optimise control
of heat loss

The Centre is part of a larger development which is the Macroom
Environmental Industrial Park. Sites are available from the Cork County Council to companies who embrace the ethos of
the Park and who will incorporate 'eco design' to their building.
The park similarly focuses on encouraging enterprise and employment
in the region and also on promoting environmental best practice
and sustainable development to businesses. There is an ambition
that new business niches will open up for companies and that
there will be branding and marketing opportunities from a community
of companies with a similar ethos operating within the park.
